Welcome to Carleton Place
and it's small businesses
The historical town of Carleton Place is just 30 minutes west of Ottawa, situated on the Mississippi River. The area was settled in 1819 and became known as Carleton Place in 1829. The area was chosen due to the potential from the waterfall. At the time, the lumber and textile industries flourished, but none are still operational.
Its historic buildings and charming downtown streets make this town a beautiful place to call home. The downtown core is home to unique local shops and restaurants that can’t be found in the city. Carleton Place brings small town living closer to the amenities of the city. The town features fitness facilities, recreation centres, spas, shopping, and scenic trails with gorgeous views of the Mississippi River. With a population of 10,000,this town has the city feel, nestled into country life. Following the extension of the 417, Carleton Place has grown, with larger box stores such as Walmart, Staples, Home Depot and Starbucks coming into the area. The extension allows individuals to experience the quiet country life with quick access to Ottawa via the 417.
The historical buildings give Carleton Place small town charm, loaded with history and architectural beauty. Walk along Bridge Street and enjoy the strength of the Mississippi River at the waterfall, and spend time finding unique items in local shops. Living in Carleton Place couldn’t be easier with the reasonable housing costs, close to all amenities nestled in the small town feel. As new developments continue throughout the area, Carleton Place still boasts historical and heritage buildings that have been renovated and changed into shops, restaurants, and homes. With direct water access, as well as waterfront homes, Carleton Place truly adds the beauty into simple, easy living. Enjoy quiet neighbourhoods and streets without the hustle and bustle of the city.
